Name: Nick Foster
Occupation: Health and Safety Consultant (Senior Principal Designer and CDM Advisor).
Group you frequently run with? Beginner/Intermediate.
How did you get involved with the Pumas? I was looking for a running club and found Pumas on the web.
I run because… I need to be active, I used to cycle 100 miles per week but moved jobs closer to home.
By joining the Pumas, what were/are you hoping to get out of it? (eg simply to keep fit, improve your running, run faster). All of the above, challenge, train for events and a social aspect.
Do you have any personal goals and running aims for 2017? I have entered the Para10 in September. 10 miles carrying a 35lb Bergen. I have completed this twice before and swore never again, but here we are.
Do you remember your first session? Yes, it was in October 2016. It was cold and dark but I loved it.
Did you run before you joined the club, or is it totally new to you? Do you or did you do any other sports? I have been running for about 10 years. A mate got me to go with him and he was literally pushing me up hills. I decided then that I needed to get fit and entered the Leeds Half Marathon in 2007. I have completed this now a total of 5 times achieving a PB of 1:47:39 two years in a row. I have played football and rugby over the years and completed two triathlons.
What’s your favourite part of being involved with the Pumas? Meeting the runners and helping out as a run leader.
Have you got any favourite routes? Although I have lived in Shelf for 3 years I still don’t really know my way around, however, I am now finding new routes. The scenery here is brilliant.
What do you find the biggest drag in running? Getting motivated to get out of the door, but once outside I enjoy it. Injuries…
How do you feel you have benefitted from joining the Pumas? Yes. I would like to be able to run with other groups and hopefully complete the Leeds Half in 2018 and beat 1:47:39.
Have you taken part in any organised events? Leeds Half x 5, Skipton Triathlon x3, Para10 x2 Catterick and Aldershot), Sheffield Half x1, Leeds 10k x 3.
If so, what was your most memorable run? Leeds Half Marathon after my Dad died, very emotional.
What most people don’t know about you is… I married the lovely Nicole on 27 May 2017.
If you were stuck on a desert island what would your luxury item be? A radio to listen to music.
If you were stuck on a desert island who would you like to be there with? Nicole…of course.
If you were stuck on a desert island name your three favourite songs (at least one should be your favourite song to run to)? ACDC – Highway to Hell, Beethoven – Moonlight Sonata (not to run to), Elbow – One Day Like This.
